Some
months I use this newsletter to answer a "question of the month."
If you have a suggestion for a question please email at: jr@lawschoolbound.com. Please
remember that my answers to these questions are my opinions. You should pay
attention to my reasoning. If the question pertains to your situation, please
discuss the question with your academic and/or career advisor. The following question comes from a university career
centre: "When is the best time to write the LSAT?" My Answer: The
LSAT is part of the law school application. For university students your
grades will be the biggest factor in determining where you are accepted to
law school. Therefore, you try hard to make sure that applying to law school
does not conflict with your grades. As you know, the general deadline for
applicants for Ontario law schools is November 1, 2005. U.S. schools and
schools in other Canadian provinces may have different deadlines. The
LSAT is available to be written in June, October, December and February. I
urge you to take the LSAT in June or October at the latest. Here are some
comments on each of the four LSAT administrations. 1.
Monday June 6, 2005 - This allows you to prepare during the month of May when
you will have fewer conflicts with school. You will still be in "exam
mode". If necessary, October will be a backup. 2.
Saturday October 1, 2005 - This is still pretty good - but you will be well
into school and will have less time to prepare. This would leave with
December as a backup - which is a bad weekend for students. 3.
Saturday December 3, 2005 - For many law schools this is the last allowable
LSAT. It is also the first Saturday in December which is bad weekend for
students. 4. Saturday February 4, 2006 - Don't even consider this
expect as an early start for the following year. If you can manage it, June 6 should be the day!! Please
note that you must pay attention to the specific requirements of different
schools. For example, those applying in the "mature student"
category at Osgoode Hall are required to take the LSAT no later than October
1, 2005 Please
note also that LSAT offers different days for "Saturday Sabbath
Observers." |
